How to Care for Your Tri Suit

Tips to Maximize Lifespan & Performance

A tri suit isn’t just a piece of gear—it’s an investment in your training, performance, and race-day confidence. At WYN republic, our tri suits are crafted from premium Italian and Swiss technical fabrics, designed for speed, comfort, and durability. But to keep your suit looking and performing its best, proper care is essential.

Here are our top tips and tricks to extend the life of your tri suit—beyond just washing instructions:

🧼 1. Wash Smart

The way you clean your suit matters. Follow these golden rules:

  • Hand wash or use a delicate cycle with cold water (under 85°F / 30°C).

  • Use a high-quality, sports-specific detergent. Avoid anything with bleach or harsh chemicals.

  • Never use fabric softeners, iron, bleach, or dry clean your tri suit. These can break down the technical fibers.

  • Hang dry only. No tumble dryers—heat will ruin elasticity and fabric integrity.

💡 Pro Tip: Use a protective wash bag or a Guppyfriend® bag to reduce fabric stress in the washing machine and prevent micro-tears from friction.

🚫 2. Ditch the Hanger (The Wrong Way)

Hanging your suit incorrectly can stretch out shoulder seams and compromise the shape over time.

  • Don’t hang from the shoulders like a shirt.

  • Instead, drape your suit over a drying rack or hang it folded over a towel bar to evenly distribute weight.

This prevents stretching and preserves fit—especially critical for race-ready compression suits.

🎒 3. Transport With Care

Throwing your suit in a backpack after a swim or brick session? Protect it from friction and moisture:

  • Use a dry bag or separate gear pouch to keep it safe from wet towels, shoes, or rough zippers.

  • Avoid letting your suit rub against Velcro, rough surfaces, or other gear—abrasion is one of the fastest ways to wear out high-performance fabrics.

☀️ 4. Limit Sun & Chemical Exposure

After open-water swims or long training days, rinse your suit as soon as possible.

  • Saltwater, chlorine, and sunscreen can all degrade fabric if left sitting for hours.

  • Avoid long-term exposure to direct sunlight, which can fade colors and damage fabric integrity.

⚠️ 5. Know What’s Normal

All tri suits—especially light-colored ones—are susceptible to:

  • Discoloration from sweat, deodorants, anti-chafe products, and long open-water swims.

  • These effects are normal signs of wear, not defects.

That said, minimizing exposure and rinsing promptly can slow visible changes.

🏁 The Bottom Line

Your WYN tri suit is designed to go the distance. But how you care for it off the race course is just as important as how you perform on it. With a little extra attention, your suit will stay fast, functional, and fresh—ready for every training session and every start line.
