Spread a little love and compassion in your community while you self-isolate
by Jordan Blanco
A week ago, our daily conversations did not include phrases such as “community spread”, “social distancing” and “self-isolation.” Unfortunately, newspapers and social media are littered with articles explaining these concepts as the world seeks to “flatten the curve” and ease the expected burden on national healthcare systems related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a company that is built around the concept of supporting and inspiring an active community, it’s hard for WYN republic to stand by and watch as friends are asked to separate and distance. It’s just not part of our DNA!
We recognize the importance of social distancing and we are fully embracing it. We do NOT want to contribute to community spread but we DO want to spread love and compassion in our community during these challenging times.
The question is, how can we stay connected and support the people, businesses, and brands that we love while staying home?
We’ve got a few ideas on how to support your favorite businesses as we adjust to social distancing, and we’d really love to hear what you’re doing to stay connected and sustain those in your personal community.
Local cafés and restaurants – you may have to for-go lunch with friends, a coffee date or a night out at your favorite restaurant but many places are offering “to go” services so you can still enjoy your favorite meals and skip the dishes one day of the week. Don’t forget to tip!
Personal service providers – massage therapists, hairdressers, and the local mani-pedi place might not be critical services in these strained times, but your continued support is essential for these service providers. Consider buying a gift card for use at a future date to help sustain the people you regularly see but cannot do so in the coming weeks.
Online ordering – we’re lucky to be able to order pretty much anything online all while hunkering down at home. Don’t default to a single store as you shop online in the coming weeks, as a variety of retailers and small businesses need your continued support. Spread the love!
Gifts – trips have been canceled and parties postponed, and FaceTime is awesome to catch up with family and friends, but you can still send a little love in the mail to let them know you’re thinking of them.
Show your love – your local business may not be open right now but you can still show them how much you care and ask how you can help. Submit that product review you’ve been meaning to write, send a caring message or engage on their social channels to reassure them that you’ll be back as soon as possible.
